For the last 20 years, Jay has been a professor of public health in Illinois. Before that, he spent a decade in internal medicine at the University of Chicago. His focus for the last 35 years has been estimating the duration of life. In this episode, Jay shares how he started Lapetus Solutions. An expert in his field, Jay was approached by the late Bob Benmosche, who was the CEO of AIG at the time. Bob expressed that the insurance world has no knowledge of technology on the topic and hoped it would help them to operate more efficiently. Shortly after, Jay began looking for a colleague who could help address an issue in the field- the fact that the children of long-lived people tend to look young for their age. In other words, they’re aging at a slower rate. Jay was looking for another scientist that could help measure that. That’s what led him to co-founder Dr. Karl Ricanek, a pioneer in the field of facial analytics, and the two created a company as a result.
